Tribocorrosion essentially describes the interaction between tribological and corrosive mechanisms of degradation. A large number of engineering components are subjected to synergism between tribology (e.g., abrasive wear, erosive wear, sliding wear) and corrosion (oxidation, aqueous corrosion etc). In such conditions, the wastage rates may be significantly greater than the sum of the processes acting separately and there is now considerable research directed at modeling and simulating experimentally such interactions. These effects are observed in many diverse industries ranging from the offshore mineral processing and healthcare industries and in processes which include oil and gas production, dentistry and artificial joint replacement. In the past decade, the significant number of research outputs from many groups in the world has enhanced the scientific understanding of the tribocorrosion process as well as identifying the breadth of possible applications of materials exposed to such conditions. It is therefore timely that a dedicated international symposium takes stock of recent progress and charts out the vectors of future issues which need to be addressed in the subject. It is proposed to bring together key notes and invited lectures from specialists and in the areas covering tribology in aqueous environments, at high temperatures, in cryogenic conditions and in biological and gaseous environments. |

Technical presentations in the symposium will be based on both keynote and invited papers. In addition a Panel Discussion will be held to assess the state-of-the-art of present research in the area and outline possible directions in which the future efforts should be based. |

| Nature of Papers | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Presentations are solicited from International/ National organizations/Corporate bodies involved in tribo-corrosion, researchers, consultants, educationists, service providers and experts in the field. The Proceedings of the Symposium will be published as a special issue and made available to the participants at the time of the Symposium. Selected papers will also be published as a special issue of Tribology International. This necessitates the submission of the full text of the presentation to the organizers before September 25, 2006. |
